Final Wrap up
September 26, 2007
Hey guys,
This probably will seem rather surprising but I have decided to discontinue this blog. Thats right Success in the Digital Life is unfortunately coming to an end.
I feel terrible saying that but I know that it is for the best. I don’t feel as though I am quitting or giving up because I know what it would take to get this site where I want it to be and I can do that. But my heart just isn’t in it 100%.
I decided to go down this path for numerous reasons. Which I shall now highlight:
Crunch Time
Its not that I’m unorganised, its just that of late I have been feeling the grind of taking on a tremendous amount of work. Previously I was handling this fairly well. But as soon as I started up this blog I quickly learnt that I had taken on too much.
I have had this uncomfortable feeling ever since the site began that I need to start writing new content now as the banked material(I prewrote most articles some months ago) is in short supply. I think that in the last month and a half I haven’t written more than one original article. Which proves that I clearly don’t have the time.
Its not that I don’t have the ideas, passion or interest to persue this blog. Its like I said, time and energy is the problem. I have piles of content ideas but I find that when I have the time to write them I am flat out exhausted and lack the motivation to write.
Square Peg, Round Hole
Thats sorta how I am finding seperating into my own niche. I’ve talked about this issue before; most of the blogs with similar content to my own are ‘money making’ blogs which actually are (in some ways) the complete opposite to what I am trying to preach. Obviously there is a bit of difficulty there. Plus there are also bits about the ‘make money’ blogs that I just straight out disagree with and I don’t want that to be associated with my site.
Future Avenues
My other problem comes from a lack of knowledge about where I go for future advertising. Beyond other blogs in similar niches, I have no idea how to plug this type of content towards other areas. If its how I imagine it would be then I don’t really want to do it.
Other Work
Over the last few months I have grow a strong love towards my gaming blog and on a regular basis feel excited about posting new content. Unfortunately this site has been holding those ideas back.
Conclusion
Alrighty, I hope that you all enjoyed what I’ve posted over the last month and a half. I’d like to thank a few people, being: my brother for setting this site up for me and my affiliates Stephen and Charity. Be sure to stick to my video gaming blog for more of my gear. Thanks for reading.
As of the current time I’m unsure about what I will do with the sites content.

It Takes Skill to be Real
September 22, 2007

It certainly does. The title is a quote taken out of the song Changes by 2Pac and I feel as though it suits the meaning of this post appropriately. Which is to be yourself, be genuine and don’t allow other people to change who you are. This topic is generally dicussed in reference to high school students but these principles apply for well everyone.
What is “not being true to ourselves”?
This is when we act, think or behave in a way in which we know is not how we want to act. Basically chosing to do something that we don’t wish to do.
Why we would not be true to ourself
Influence is the key word here. The choices we have in life can be influenced by a number of factors such as the people around us. We all want to be true to ourself therefore it is how we handle these influences that determines what kind of person we are.
I believe that no one wants to commit theft. But theft occurs due to the negative influences in life. Think of the reasons why you might steal from a small clothes store. Here are a few fictional scenarios that I have composed:
- -your friends want to steal from the store and encourage you to participate in the theft
- -you are homeless and need to survive the cold winters chill
- -you are jealous of the successful clothes store owner and get yor vengence by stealing his clothes
The influences in these scanarios are your friends, living situation and jealousy.
People often use the excuse “but I had no choice”. Yet we always have choice, it’s just that there is an influence affecting us which can lead us into choosing the wrong choice.
The Downfalls of Submitting to Influence
There are numerous downfalls for not being true to ourselves but I think that the key thing is not being happy. Nobody enjoys doing something that isn’t “them” and despite the difficulty in fighting influences we still hate submitting to it.
What it takes to be True to Yourself
It takes a lot of inner strength to not allow the often strong influences in life to push you in the wrong direction. When it comes time to making an important decision(and you’ll know when its that time) you just need to say no. It’s not the action that is hard but rather the principal behind the action.
Revising the article I can’t help but feel that I have labelled influences as being bad. Influences can be good as well. And its important that we stay away from the negative influences in life. So, what about you? Have you had to stength to say no to bad influences? Let us know as everyone’s contribution helps.

Motivational Tool – Pushing Peoples Buttons
September 18, 2007

Motivational Tool is a series of posts designed to showcase different tools an techniques that people can use in order to motivate themselves and others into action. Click here for other posts in this series.
For those of you that have seen those extreme weight loss TV shows should understand the following point. You’ll often see the weight loss trainers trying to push the competitors by bringing up problems that they have faced being overweight. Such as teasing, fitting into dresses and the other stereotypical problems with obesity. They do this for a reason.
The reason is harness the feelings that the contestants feel about the bad past experience to push them to work harder. As it reminds the contestant of something that they don’t want to experience again, so the only way to avoid that is to work harder. This is how the trainers “push their buttons” and get more out of the contestants.
We can use the same principles on ourselves to drive us to work harder. This technique works well on yourself or in a team situation.
Identifying Your Desire
This is the most important part of the exercise. Tell yourself(or each other) the reason why you are in your current environment and/or what you want to get out of it. This could be to save enough money to finally move out of home, to gain experience to get a better job, become a better person etc. Once we understand the person motives for doing what they are doing we can use this to trigger them into being more determined to fulfill that goal.
Talk about this for a while, tell each other(or yourself) why you want this so badly. I’ll go back to the weight loss example for a moment. If your desire was this then you could say something like:
I want to lose weight, so that I can run around with my kids and be a better father. I’m sick of being a lazy slob. When I go shopping I can never find a stylish pair of pants to fit my waist.
Its also important to respect everyone’s input for this exercise.
Turning this into Motivation
To turn this into motivation we need to identify the key features of peoples desires and understand this to some degree. This makes it easier for us to use this as motivation. Once we have done this all we need to do is put these parts into sentences and think of some motivating catch phrases. So looking at the example again, one could possibly say the following for encouragement:
- “C’mon mate, run faster you’ll never be able to keep up with your kids at that snail pace”
- “One more sit up, you can do it, and when your done we’ll go out looking for new pants”
- “I know that you can do this, you just have to focus and stop being a lazy slob”
When you Should Use This
The best time to use this kind of personal encouragement is when someone has sunk down to their lowest or when they are on a roll and you want them to continue the productivity. Your encouragement is then a positive reminder as to why they are doing what the are doing. This gets them back into focus when the team needs it.
Conclusion
Despite this simplicity of this post, you can use this tool as a more effective form of motivation. What other techniques do yo use to motivate people?
